Hideaway Cafe Work Experince

Heather and Lucy Shine During Work Experience at The Hideaway Cafe

Two of the people we support at Beyond Limits, Heather and Lucy, recently completed a fantastic work experience opportunity at The Hideaway Cafe as part of the Fulfilling Futures programme.

The opportunity came about after café owner Sam made a public appeal offering people with disabilities the chance to gain valuable work experience within her café. Our Service Leader Julie saw the appeal and immediately got in touch.

After meeting Sam, it quickly became clear that she shared many of the same values and beliefs that are at the heart of Beyond Limits. Her passion for inclusion, community and creating opportunities for people to thrive made The Hideaway Cafe the perfect place for Heather and Lucy to build their confidence and develop new skills.

Becoming Part of the Team

From day one, Heather and Lucy became valued members of the team at The Hideaway Cafe. During their placement they got involved in many different areas of the café, including:

  • Making drinks
  • Preparing food
  • Serving customers on the till
  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the café

Both Heather and Lucy approached every task with enthusiasm, confidence and determination. They did an absolutely outstanding job and quickly became well-loved members of the team.

Building Confidence and New Skills

Work experience opportunities like this can make a huge difference, helping people develop independence, build confidence and gain valuable real-world experience in welcoming community settings.

Heather and Lucy both embraced the opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed their time at The Hideaway Cafe. Everyone at the café, alongside all of us at Beyond Limits, are incredibly proud of everything they achieved during their placement.

A Huge Thank You

We would like to say a very special thank you to Sam and everyone at The Hideaway Cafe for creating such a warm, supportive and inclusive environment for Heather and Lucy.

Sam is truly a star within her community and her kindness, encouragement and belief in creating opportunities for everyone made this experience incredibly meaningful.

Opportunities like this show the positive impact that inclusive employers and community partnerships can have, and we are so grateful for the support shown to Heather and Lucy throughout their placement. 💙
