Staff Retreat 2026

One Team: Reflecting on Our 2026 Staff Retreat

At Beyond Limits, we know that great support starts with great teams. That’s why we were delighted to bring colleagues together for our 2026 Staff Retreat at the beautiful China Fleet Country Club for two inspiring days of learning, collaboration and connection.

This year’s retreat centred around the theme “One Team” a reminder that while we all work in different locations, supporting different people and bringing different experiences, we are united by a shared purpose: helping people live lives of their choosing.

Led by the brilliant Karen Mason, the retreat was packed with engaging activities, thought-provoking discussions and opportunities to reflect on how we work together. Across the two days, Karen created an environment where everyone felt encouraged to participate, share ideas and step outside their comfort zones, all while having plenty of fun along the way.

One of the highlights of the retreat was the variety of creative and interactive activities that brought the “One Team” theme to life. Teams worked together to create their own posters and artwork, exploring what makes an effective team and the values that unite us. These sessions sparked meaningful conversations about collaboration, trust and the unique strengths that each person brings to Beyond Limits.

We also took part in a range of speaking, coaching and active listening exercises. These activities challenged us to communicate with intention, really listen to one another and think about how we can support, encourage and develop those around us. Whether taking on the role of coach, speaker, or listener, every conversation reinforced the importance of strong communication in building successful teams and great leaders.

Perhaps the most memorable, and certainly one of the funniest activities, was planning and performing our own movie trailers. While there were plenty of laughs, creativity and some surprisingly impressive acting skills on display, the exercise had a much deeper purpose. It encouraged us to collaborate under pressure, embrace different perspectives, play to each other’s strengths and think creatively to achieve a shared goal. Watching each team’s trailer come to life was a fantastic reminder that when everyone contributes, the results can be both meaningful and memorable.

Although each activity looked very different on the surface, they all shared a common purpose. Every exercise had underlying themes of personal development, leadership, communication, teamwork and growth. They challenged us to reflect on how we work together, recognise the value of different perspectives and build stronger relationships that will continue to benefit the people we support every day.

The retreat wasn’t just about developing skills, it was also about strengthening connections. Bringing colleagues together from across the organisation gave us the opportunity to share experiences, celebrate successes and get to know one another beyond our day-to-day roles. Those conversations, both during the sessions and over meals and breaks, reminded us just how much we can learn from one another.

One of the most memorable moments of the retreat was hearing from our wonderful colleague, Suzie, who shared her inspiring journey from Africa to the UK through a sponsorship programme and how she found a home here at Beyond Limits.

Suzie spoke openly about the challenges she faced, the opportunities she embraced and the personal growth she has experienced along the way. Her story was both moving and uplifting, highlighting the life-changing impact that support, opportunity and belonging can have. It was a privilege to hear how far she has come and to celebrate everything she has achieved.

Today, Suzie is a valued and committed member of the Beyond Limits family. Her passion, resilience and dedication shine through in everything she does, and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team. Her story was a powerful reminder that when people are given the right support and opportunities, they can truly thrive.

As the retreat drew to a close, there was a real sense of energy, confidence and optimism across the group. We left not only with new ideas and practical skills, but with stronger relationships, a deeper understanding of one another and an even greater appreciation of what it means to work as One Team.

A huge thank you goes to Karen Mason for expertly guiding us through two unforgettable days with such warmth, insight and enthusiasm. Her ability to create engaging activities that were both enjoyable and genuinely meaningful made the retreat a truly rewarding experience for everyone.

We’d also like to thank China Fleet Country Club for providing a fantastic venue and exceptional hospitality throughout our stay. Their welcoming atmosphere and excellent facilities created the perfect setting for learning, reflection and team building.

Our 2026 Staff Retreat reminded us that while every individual brings something unique to Beyond Limits, it is by learning from one another, supporting one another and working together that we make the biggest difference.

Here’s to continuing to grow, develop and support one another as One Team. We can’t wait to do it all again next year.
